Oh i just couldn’t resist . . . this hub-bub about the “twilight” series has me intrigued. . . . the whole concept of words being made visual has kept me constantly creating either in my studio (which most paintings have text even it disappears behind the color) or writing in my journals and documenting my thoughts, feelings and actions . . . my observations . . . isn’t that what makes life interesting? The combination of working in the library and being an artist makes me contemplate the juxtaposition of visual versus text almost 24/7 . . . Questions: Text without visual; does that allow for more imagination? Visual without text does it inspire? ‘Tis a puzzlement . . .
“Twilight”, the extremely popular Young Adult series (adults too) about Bella (a mortal) and Edward (a vampire) and their unusual and enchanting relationship is now on the verge of becoming a movie and Meyer’s new book “Breaking Dawn” check her webpage is coming out shortly. I started looking at her webpage and myspace and all the hype around this story becoming visual. “Tis a puzzlement . . . will Pattinson be the “Edward” you imagined? brings up the whole chicken/egg dilemma, should a read the book first? or see the movie but in this instance the book is what made the movie possible. If you go to Youtube.com you can view a myriad of trailers and even an interview of Meyer (posted below) . . . explore and don’t forget to see what Meyer has planned after “Breaking Dawn”. . . anyone got “edward”?
This morning coming into work, I heard a clip of NPR’s Forum with Michael Krasny as he interviewed artists in the new show at SFMOMA “Half-Life of a Dream” Contemporary Chinese Art (opening today in SF) and I was inspired by listening to the artists speak of their experience and what they feel about art in the rapidly changing China. Of interest to me especially was listening to my professor from Mills College, Hung Liu and realizing her experience growing up in Maoist China and having to hide her drawings and paintings and go into a field to create was her way of using her voice . . . and then . . . language??
I came upon a blog in the NYTimes about music . . . on words and bridges . . . check it out here, but this brings in a whole other language and so you see??? this topic is so large – visual, text, sound and well . . . composition seems to be core for all, a whole other topic . . . i think i’m blathering now . . . i’ll stop.
p.s.
. . . as i just handed someone the well worn copy of “Inkspell” by Cornelia Funke, I thought, i’m so happy to be in a library! We do the “reuse, recycle, reduce rethink” philosophy superbly!! I won’t go out to buy the new “breaking dawn”!
